Counselling

The Therapy Centre counselling service provides a safe environment, where the counsellors will help you to explore and make sense of your thoughts and feelings and where you will not feel pressured or judged and will work at your own pace. We are aware that everyone progresses through counselling slightly differently, and at different speeds, so we always plan and adapt sessions to suit your needs. At your initial meeting our counsellors will create a contract with you outlining how many sessions, the length of sessions, our confidentiality policy and boundaries, and after a couple of sessions will review to ensure that you are getting the best out of  therapy and which will give you time to discuss if you would like the sessions to continue. You will generally meet with a counsellor for one-hour sessions, once a week, and either have a course of up to six or ten sessions (which is described as short-term), or , if required and agreed, can continue for a longer defined period of time (long-term).

Our Counsellors have worked with a wide range of complex issues: anxiety, depression, substance misuse and addiction, bi-polar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, anger management, lack of self-confidence/self-esteem, phobias, psycho-sexual/gender problems, bereavement, relationship issues, historical abuse and suicidal thoughts.

We have counsellors with a vast amount of experience in the field of substance misuse and addiction (to drink, drugs and other substances, and to things like sex and gambling).
